The town of Isparta lies 120 km north of Antalya the worldwide famous Turkish resort amidst The impressive Taurus mountain region on a plateau 1035 m above sea level. The area has been inhabited since the 7th millennium B.C., and all major civilizations of the Mediterranean region have left their traces there. Traditionally the production of valuable handmade carpets is the population’s principal livelihood. Isparta is famous for these fine products, and is one of the most important centers in the country. Other crafts rose cultivation and the timber trade also contributed substantially to the town’s economic development.
